Our AGM event will take place on November 27th at 6pm in Committee Room 6, House of Commons. The theme will be, ‘The human cost of selection’  and the event will looks at the social and emotional aspects of 11-plus selection.

Our chair is Dr.Marlene Ellis and our speakers are:

Prof John Jerrim
Professor of Education and Social Statistics at the UCL Institute of Education. His research paper ‘The association between attending a grammar school and children’s socio-emotional outcomes’ considered how grammar school attendance affects pupils’ self-confidence, academic self-esteem and aspirations.

Jonny Roberts
Former Parliamentary candidate for Labour in 2015 and currently working for Westminster Forum Projects organising policy conferences. Jonny spoke about his experience of failing the 11-plus and the impact on him and his peers at the 2017 Labour Party conference in Brighton.

Dr Brian Apter
Brian Apter is an Educational Psychologist, researcher and writer. He is currently Chair of the British Psychological Society’s Division of Educational and Child Psychology.

Dr Ayo Mansaray
Lecturer in Education Policy at King’s College, London. A sociologist of education with interests in educational inequalities of race/ethnicity, gender and social class, and in understanding how urban social change inflects educational identities and processes.
