Our AGM event will take place on November 21st at the House of Commons from 6pm – 7pm. All supporters of Comprehensive Future are welcome, with free tickets available here.

The theme will be, ‘Next Steps Towards a Comprehensive Future‘ discussed by panellists Lucy Crehan, Alan Parker and Tom Sherrington, with Clive Lewis MP as chair.

Lucy Crehan is a qualified teacher, an education explorer, an author, and an international education consultant. She taught science and psychology at a secondary school in London before becoming interested in education research and policy, completing a Masters, and setting off on an educational exploration around the world’s top performing education systems. She helped out in schools and lived with teachers in Finland, Canada, Singapore, Japan, New Zealand and Shanghai, spending a month in each place. Since returning from her trip she has published Cleverlands, a book recounting her findings about international education systems. She works as part of a team advising foreign governments on education reform at the Education Development Trust.

Alan Parker has worked in the field of education and training for a variety of voluntary, statutory and private agencies since the 1970s. His professional career culminated with board level roles as Education Officer at the Association of Metropolitan Authorities (1992 – 1997) and Director of Education at the London Borough of Ealing (1997- 2002).  Since then he has divided his time between: consultancy in education policy and management; part-time roles in national agencies (as a Schools Adjudicator 2004 – 2012; and currently on the OFQUAL Examinations Procedures Review Service); and voluntary activities.   He is a qualified executive coach and has been active in relevant professional associations since 1990, serving as SEO President in 2002, and currently as an ADCS Associate. He is also a Trustee of two Charities: the National Foundation for Education Research (NFER); and the Association of Education Committees (AEC) Trust.

Tom Sherrington is a highly regarded education consultant and CPD provider with 30 years experience working as a teacher and headteacher in a wide range of schools in England and overseas. He writes the well-known blog teacherhead.com and is a regular contributor to ResearchEd events, the Festival of Education and other conferences. Tom is a founding trustee of the National Baccalaureate Trust and a founding member of the influential Headteachers’ Roundtable think tank. His new book ‘The Learning Rainforest is an attempt to provide an accessible summary of key contemporary evidence-based ideas about teaching and learning to inform the debates that all teachers should be engaging in.

Our panel chair is Clive Lewis MP, the Labour party member of parliament for Norwich South.

We do hope you will join us at our AGM event to share in debate, discussion and ideas for ending selection and creating a successful comprehensive education system. Tickets are limited, so please book now if you would like to attend.
