Comprehensive Future supporters are welcome to attend our 2022 AGM and can register for a free ticket HERE.

A short business meeting will include our Chair’s overview of this year’s campaign work and the election of our new steering committee. We will then welcome our three new patrons, Lord Philip Hunt, Prof Jane Martin and Fiona Millar, who will each speak on the theme of, ‘Why we need comprehensive education now more than ever.’ After our new patrons have spoken, supporters will have the opportunity to ask questions and make suggestions for Comprehensive Future’s direction in the coming year.

This year, we welcome three outstanding new patrons:

Philip Hunt, Baron Hunt of Kings Heath, is a Labour peer and serves as Labour’s Shadow Deputy Leader of the House of Lords. Philip lives in an area of Birmingham with grammar schools and is an outspoke critic of selective education. Lord Hunt recently put in an excellent Schools Bill amendment questioning government policy on selective education.

Jane Martin is Professor of the Social History of Education at Birmingham University. She has just published ‘Gender and Education in England 1770 to the present day: a social and cultural history’. Jane is currently working on a biography of Caroline Benn, education campaigner and author, and a leading figure in the comprehensive education movement during the transformative years of the 1960s and 1970s.

Fiona Millar, writer and journalist specialising in education and parenting issues. Fiona was Chair of Comprehensive Future from 2009 to 2013. We are delighted to welcome her back as a patron. Fiona’s book ‘The Best for My Child. Did the schools market deliver?’ was published in 2018.

We hope to see you all at our AGM and thank you for your support. Book your place at our AGM HERE.
