If you had to choose one option, what worries you most about grammar schools and the 11+?
*
The stress it puts on children preparing for a high-stakes test at age 10 or 11
It’s not a fair test, wealthier families can pay for tutoring to boost their child’s score.
It leaves some children behind. Those from poorer backgrounds or with special educational needs are less likely to get in.
It harms other local schools, affecting everyone else’s education.
The result can follow a child for life being labelled a “pass” or “fail” at 10 shapes self-perception.
It can’t reliably predict a child’s ability. Children develop at different rates, and one test can’t capture that.
It doesn’t actually improve education overall. Grammar school areas don’t consistently produce better outcomes for the majority of children.
